Dr. Jamie Chan
Dr. Jamie Chan is a social psychologist who specialises in appearance research that names and challenges systemic and social inequalities. Their work is underpinned by a commitment to understanding how broader social and economic forces, such as capitalism, patriarchy, neoliberalism, white supremacy, shape ideas about bodies and appearance. They are passionate about creating space for underrepresented and marginalised voices in research, as well as in society more broadly.
Jamie is a Lecturer at the University of Brighton, as well as a Management Board member at the Centre for Transforming Sexuality and Gender and a committee member of the Women and Equalities Section of the British Psychological Society.
