Dr. Ciara Mahon

Dr. Ciara Mahon (BA Hons, Sch., PhD) is an Assistant Professor at the Dublin City University, School of Psychology. She earned her Honours BA in Psychology from Trinity College Dublin, where she was awarded the prestigious Trinity College Foundation Scholarship.


Ciara focuses on helping people improve their body image and reject harmful societal messaging. She has co-led several multistakeholder international projects on school-based body image interventions and is currently the principal investigator on a Research Ireland Pathways grant developing novel digital interventions to support adult body image.


Her work is driven by a commitment to fostering healthier body relationships and creating lasting change through research, education, and advocacy. Previously, she was Principal Investigator on an Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Enterprise Scheme at University College Dublin, where she collaborated with Jigsaw, The National Centre for Youth Mental Health, to culturally adapt and evaluate Be Real’s BodyKind—a novel body image programme for adolescents—in one of the largest school-based body image trials.
